Collaboration
Weißer Nebel (White Veil) is a physical theatre performance created to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The work explores memory, loss, and the ways people continue living after their world has been divided into before and after.
The performance brings together two interconnected experiences: young people living through the reality of war in Ukraine and Ukrainian women rebuilding their lives in Germany after forced displacement. Although separated by borders, they inhabit the same emotional landscape — grief, waiting, uncertainty, and the search for connection.
A long white pathway made of fabric becomes the central image of the performance, symbolizing transition, distance, and the fragile thread connecting people across places and time. Through movement, visual imagery, and physical presence, the work reflects on how memory is carried within the body and how cultural traditions help preserve identity during times of rupture.
Rather than telling individual stories, Weißer Nebel creates a shared space where absence becomes presence and remembrance becomes an act of moving forward.
The project was implemented within the framework of the partnership between the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (Germany) and Odesa Region (Ukraine). Premiere — 24 February 2026, Theater Bremen.
The world has already changed.
Some remain where everything happened. Others carry the same memories across borders.
Between them stretches a white road.
Along this road, fragments of everyday life emerge — letters left unanswered, interrupted conversations, silence, familiar rituals, gestures of care, and memories that refuse to disappear.
A raven watches.
It neither judges nor intervenes. It witnesses. It remembers.
The performers move through a landscape where the body becomes an archive of loss, resilience, and hope. Individual stories merge into a collective experience in which distance no longer separates people but reveals the invisible threads that continue to connect them.
The white veil gradually transforms from an obstacle into a path.
Memory no longer holds people in place.
It allows them to continue walking.
